Combined Cadet Force

The Combined Cadet Force at Polam Hall is affiliated to the CCF at Barnard Castle School and offers an army section. Although the activities and training programmes are based around a military setting, the prime objective is to develop leadership and inner strength.

The weekly meetings, called parades, include activities such as map-work; battle drills, section attacks and camp craft. These activities progress to specialist training related to weapons, battle skills, signals and radios and older cadets follow a training course to become instructors.

The CCF is an invaluable way of testing and developing a pupil’s drive and determination and offers out of School activities and exercises during the term, including shooting on indoor and outdoor ranges, camping, and visits to nearby service bases or regiments. In the holidays, organised camps exist for training and visits to army bases. There are additional opportunities for cadets to go on individual training courses for a wide range of subjects.

Polam Hall’s Combined Cadet Force CO is Assistant Head and Head of Boarding, Captain Jill Garvey.
