Boarding at Polam Hall

Polam Hall School is a state boarding school with facilities for up to 60 boys and girls from Year 7 upwards. We are able to offer places to any UK or EEA passport holder. All our lessons are taught in English, but we do provide additional English classes and offer extra support for those for whom English is not their first language.

Friendly atmosphere

We offer a friendly, live-in experience with accommodation in traditional family-style houses. There are no large, impersonal dormitories and students are able to socialise with house ‘siblings’ in different year groups, just as they would in normal family life.

Polam Hall sits in 20 acres of glorious landscaped grounds and yet it is only five minutes from a main line rail station and less than 2 miles to the nearest motorway link. We are 15 minutes from Durham Tees Valley airport, and just an hour from Leeds Bradford or Newcastle airports. The School is in Darlington town centre within easy walking distance of a large swimming pool, sports centre and gymnasium, shopping, cinema and restaurants so there is plenty for our boarders to do, either independently for the older ones, or in organised supervised groups for the younger children.

Our current Head of Boarding is Mr David Brown can be emailed here.

Great location

We are spoilt for choice when it comes to outdoor activities and heritage – and we certainly make the most of this when organising weekend excursions for boarders. Although we are technically in County Durham, we are just a short drive away from the beautiful Yorkshire Dales, some of the UK’s most impressive walking and cycling scenery as witnessed in the media coverage of the Tour de France cycle ride and are close to the North Yorkshire heritage coastline and the historic university cities of Durham and York.
